Photograph album containing carte de visite portraits of members of the Josiah Failing family of Portland, Or., circa 1865-1875. Subjects include Josiah Failing; his sons Edward Failing, James F. Failing, and Henry Failing, as well as Henry's wife Emily Phelps Corbett Failing and their children; his daughters Elizabeth Failing Conner and Mary Failing Merill; and other members of Failing family and the related Conner family, as well as some family friends. An inscription inside the album reads: "Jas. F. Failing from his sister Emily, 25 Dec. 1868, Christmas." Includes an index (stored with the album) to all individuals identified in the album. Photographers include Joseph Buchtel of Portland, Or.; Andrew B. Paxton of Albany, Or., and Jacob Shew of San Francisco, Calif., among many others.
